HOW CAN YOU MEND A BROKEN HEART

Several weeks ago I was hit with something so intense that it stabbed into my heart faster than a champion butcher could debone a chicken. Not childbirth, broken bones nor even a hit in the chest by a seven hundred pound wild~eyed bovine has come close to the pain I have endured. I feel as though I've had a Cardiectomy. Just like a star in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, this chick might as well been a living sacrifice in the underground temple of the Thuggees and let Mola Ram reach into my beatin' chest and yank my heart right out. It has left my spirit lower than an Ozark black snakes belly in a muddy tractor rut. Sadly I am in a position I can do nothing but pray and believe me I've prayed. Forgive me Lord for I am not a patient person...I'm Nezzy, your action figure, a doer, a fixer and a peacemaker.
Yep folks....I'm a Martha. I'm the gal ya see speedin' across the room or yard like a flash of lightin' makin' sure that everyone is well fed, havin' a grand time and gettin' along with one another. I take action. It's the way I fly....I'm just that kinda chick. I see a need, I get~'er~done! Now, will ya'll see me sittin' at the feet of Jesus' soakin' in every sweet breath of His Word like Mary??? You bet your sweet bippy ya would but you could wager your bottom dollar I'd be trimmin' his toenails and scrubbin' his callouses while makin' sure he had his favorite snack within reach along with a nice cool tall glass of iced tea in his holy hand. I'm about as confused as a hungry cow on AstroTurf just waitin' and prayin'. It's Hubby who reminds me that we don't have the answer but we know the Almighty One who does. It is Hubby who recognizes the helplessness in my gaze and tells me, "it'll be allllll~right!" He says it so well. I know it will be all~right 'cause I know who holds tomorrow but that sure doesn't mean I sit still well or the pain is any less consuming.

Barry and Robin Gibbs touched on the subject in their soft~rock adult contemporary ballad sang by the Bee Gees in 1971 released by IBC Studios in London on the Atco Label, "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart." I sing out the words, "please help me mend my broken heart and let me live again!" I know God is in control and I covet your prayers. I'd be much obliged if someone could tell me " How Can You Mend A Broken Heart ???"

Note: A Cardiectomy is a scene outta Indiana Jones Temple of Doom where the heart is removed from a living sacrifice. I have not had a heart attack, surgery,my heart literally removed or any physical ailment concerning my heart. What I'm experiencing is totally emotional.

I don't know what all is breaking that beautiful heart, but I know that you have the faith to leave it to the Master Healer.
    Prayers for you.

I know the painter of that beautiful picture, he lives in my town and I know the model of his rendition of Martha.
    She's a beautiful woman.
There is a need for a Martha everywhere.

Oh dear, I will be storming the heavens with prayers for you sweet friend. I looked up cardiectomy and I do not like this one at all. Please slow down sweet friend, rest as needed and have a little FAITH. This too, will heal in time. Maybe God is trying to tell you, that it is time for a little vacation. He doesn't want you running any more marathons for awhile. Listen to him Nezzy, please.

I know this is unfamiliar territory for you, but it is time you staked a claim here. Rest and enjoy. Pick up a magazine or two and read a little. You MUST take it easy.

You are in my prayers sweet one. Please keep me posted. R-E-S-T. I love ya girl, Sherry

  15. Hi Nezzy, Well I am worried now..something must have happened..of course you can count on my prayers. I am encouraged that your husband says things will be all right...it is hard for the fixers to be the ones that wait. Keep your chin up ..and do whatever you can do instead of dwelling on the things that you cannot change. I am sending you a hug:)

  18. Well Ms. Nezzy, I'm praying there is a 3rd definition to that big word. Not knowing what truly is going on I'll put in God's hands and know he will see you through. Sending prayers.

Now if the heart that is broken is the pictured above; get rid of those band-aids and try duct tape :)

  19. Nezzy, I don't know what's up but God never gives you more than you can handle.
Learned that first hand in Cleveland recently. I was passing a kidney stone in the ER as my dad was gasping for breath. Had I of been there, in ICU, I'd been kicked out for smacking a doc and a nurse. God knew I couldn't handle it and the only thing that would take me down is a kidney stone! By the time I saw dad his eyes were open and he wanted a kiss from me!

Yesterday was a horrible day for my daddy. I thought I was losing him. I'm only 42 and very selfish, not wanting to let him go yet! We still haven't went trout fishing like we said we would for the last couple of years!

I don't know what's going on with you but just trust in God! He's holding your hand right this very second!
    HUGS!!!

  21. I also just looked up the definition, and I'm so sorry you are going through this. It sounds pretty awful, but your sense of humor is shining through as well. For heaven's sake! I am so sorry and am wishing you well. If wishes were all you needed, it sure looks like you would have enough. Hugs (light and gentle ones).

  23. Oh Nezzy, you sweet thing, sorry you are in pain and have to sit still, but it is a doable position. I was so like you, doing everything myself and for everyone else. The hardest thing for me when I went down was watching everyone else do MY jobs. There is a reason and God is in control. Maybe there is some job he wants you to do sittin' on your butt. I have found plenty of things to do here in my chair. I will let you in on a little secret- the more you help someone else- the faster you will heal and the more the pain will go away. Figure out your new mission. You probably know what you need to be doing. Something he has put on your heart.
I did a post about Angel Dawn this morning asking others to join me in making easter bonnets (hats) for her for spring and summer. My plan is that everyone have them shipped to you by April 1st- and if there is a truckload, she can share them with her friends at St Judes.
Honey, how long are you going to be down while you heal and what did the doctors say about the future?
Hopefully it's not going to be a forever thing, but if it is, he still has things for you to do.
You touch peoples hearts and your example of how you handle this will inpsire so many. Your words are priceless. God's gift to you will make your world and everyone else's so much better just by being you and being His light in this world.
    Hugs- Tete

  29. WHOA NELLIE! Are you speaking literally or figuratively or both? What in the world happened? WHY did you have a cardiectomy? Was it a HEART cardiectomy or a cardio stomach cardiectomy? Did you have a heart attack, or some underlying condition that we didn't know about? Lord knows, you've had enough on your plate lately; you sure don't need this.

And yet, through it all, you've kept your sense of humor and good grace. You are an amazing lady and one of the strongest I've ever known.

Don't you dwell on that song - it's a great song, but it's hopeless, AND YOU ARE NOT HOPELESS! You listen to that man of yours - everything WILL be alright!

Good grief, girl - let us KNOW something!!!!!!

  31. I'm puzzled. I had to google Cardiectomy to see what was involved and it did say removal of the heart.. so It looks like you did have something major going on. Spring is coming so I think this is the time to stop and smell the roses. Just smell them. Not fertlize, cut, dethorn, arrange and deliver... just smell. And take care of yourself first. We're all here sending our prayers your way.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i looked up the word Cardiectomy before i read to the bottom and thought OH NO, it says removing the cardiac part of the stomach. I was so relieved when i got to the bottom and you said NO surgery. But really sad that your heart is hurting. God gave you a wonderful sense of humor and He will use that to help you through whatever this is.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I missed the "did not have surgery" note, but was glad to hear that part from you. I had seen your comment on another blog giving support about pain of the heart and soul. Having had heartaches and breaks in the past I have found that some are healed with time. Others only get a bandaid and are still painful to the touch, like a bruise.

  53. I have no idea what you are going through, but I do think I can identify. For two weeks in Jan. the dr. was thinking I had cancer and for two weeks I was a tee-total basket case! Cried myself a river all the while praying that God would take this cup from me. Feeling like a heel because I knew others out there much more deserving than me were battling this horrible disease. Like you I am not a patient person and so I wanted God to answer my prayer then and there. Well, long story short...He heard my prayers and it wasn't the Big C...and I am soooooo, sooooo thankful. I pray that God will answer your prayers too, but we must always remember that sometimes He says Yes, sometimes No, and sometimes Wait...but one way or another, He does answer our prayers.

  62. After I had horrible visions of your heart beating on a table outside your body, I revisited and Thank God, it was not the health fiasco I had imagined.

thank God, your health is good, now you must tell about the emotion!!!

I really think it is in the air lately. People being down and out when it is usually a rarity. Someone told me to seek my passion and let it lead me. My passion eludes me and could decide on a direction if my life depended on it.

I have heard crazy glue mends almost anything so, maybe give that a shot.

  63. You know..... I wish I could tell you how a heart if fixed.. but I can tell you that once upon a time many years ago. around 1991.. I broke and my heart broke with me... I was born again and loved the Lord but I was very suicidal and wanted nothing more than to die. I could not even imagine how in the world HE could fix me.... But fix me HE did but it took some time.... Today so many years later I am still amazed at how HE heals a heart. I remember those days and that pain that a pill could not reach.. I remember the agony that came up from a place that no Dr could reach. I remember the nights that I cried until no more tears but still cried. HE healed that......How does HE do that....HOW does HE heal something that we cannot see or touch or Dr cannot prescribe medicine...... HE heals..... I still find it to be the most amazing thing..... It did not happen over night but on day the pain was gone.. My favorite saying even today is

I used to cry because I was in pain, and now I cry because the pain is gone.....

HE heals the unseen broken heart..... HE heals.....

    You can count on that!

  69. For me, the first thing to happen to mend a broken heart is to just let go. Let it all go. You cannot change things, you are not in charge, you need to take care of yourself and be healthy, in mind and spirit. When you have really truly let go, you can be a helper, either quietly or vocally, but out of love not fear. I am so sorry that something is so awful it is hurting you. I am sending so much love your way and lots of hugs.

If I could tell you how to mend a broken heart you know I would. I have had mine torn open so much that just yesterday and so odd now that I have read this that I was thinking there could not be too much left of mine and then I read this.
In this past year you have been through so much with your Dad and sweet Angel Dawn your heart has to be broken. The only thing besides prayer is the darn saying Time has a way of mending our hearts.
Sorry honey I am not much help. No one wants to hear the word Time because that is not a fast fix for a broken heart.
Maybe you need a vacation where someone else can take care of you. I am here if you want to come to the ole North Forty. I promise to keep Tinkerbell in another room while your here.

  95. Don't know what's going, Miss Nezzy, but looks like you are being lifted up to the Almighty by all these good folks. Add my name to the list. Keep smilin', dear - you still make us smile even through your hard times. Laughter is the best medicine I hear. Stay strong.

  96. Obviously I don't know of your own Personnal pain......but I KNOW emotional hurt and sorrow. When I lost my son, it seemed unbearable. I prayed so hard for the Lord to heal him, and it was not to be and that shook my faith for awhile....but only cause I was hurting so bad. I KNOW the Lord has a plan, and He had/has a plan for Matt.
Sometimes there are things that rock us to our very core.
I'll keep you in my prayers. and I loved your comparrisons with Mary and Martha.

  97. Nezzy you amaze me. Whatever you are going through, you still take the time to stop my blog and read my complaining. Honest, sometimes I hope I don't offend you with my rantings. I will definately keep you in my thoughts and hope your pain and sorrow melt away.

  102. Hi Nezzy! I have not visited for a while and am saddened to hear you're going through some really hard emotional stuff right now. Thankfully you have the loving support of your husband and your faith to help you overcome this hurdle.

I can empathise fully with your impatience - I am the same when it comes to emotional matters. I want to get things sorted out NOW! Unfortunately, this is just not always possible, especially when others are involved. The best way forward is to try NOT TO DWELL and to treat yourself kindly. Put yourself and your needs first for a while, hard as hat may be for you to do. Perhaps this is the lesson for you...to learn to make yourself a priority. You cannot go through life wanting to nurture everyone else, least of all when you need self-nurturing.

Allow yourself time and space to breathe and to reconnect with your own needs. Take a leisurely bath in candlelight, ask your husband to massage your feet afterwards and allow yourself to drift into your favourite music while that's happening. Give yourself entirely over to THE PRESENT MOMENT! Listen to the birds, smell a flower, sip a cup of tea in your best China, savouring every mouthful. SLOW DOWN! Take conscious deep slow breaths. Exhale fully. Visualise the hurt leaving your heart. Visualise your heart healing. The answers you seek will come to you if you allow yourself time to simply BE!

    Hugs,

    Des xo

  103. Thank you for visiting my blog Nezzy. Your comments are always a good Pick-Me-Up which sounds like something that you can use. I am so sorry that you are feeling as though your heart is broken. None of us should have to feel that sort of pain. God will listen to you. He has to. I said a silly little prayer yesterday, for my husband, and a few minutes later I found that God had listened to me! So keep on prayin', hopefully your heart will me on the mend soon! Love Di ♥

  104. You care - you give, you love with all your heart - you believe. It's the valleys that allow us to enjoy the peaks when God gets us through them but I know it's so very, very difficult. I'm a caregiver in a high school health room and my 2nd job is with high functioning intellectually challenged adults. They fill my heart with joy every day. My prayer for you is to a peace, feel God's love and gentleness - He's with you now and always, Jennifer come visit me sometime jennsthreegraces

  107. It is often hard waiting and it is sometime harder trying to find His Will and Way in everything that goes on in life but in the end, He is always there to hold you and heal those broken hearts.

  108. I feel you! Not being a patient person either, I'll hold your hand while you wait!!! Hugs!

  123. Nezzy girl,
As one emotional chick to another, I just have to say that you must keep on praying, cuz you never know when THE prayer might be the one He answers! If you stop prayin', He'll never hear it... course, in the mean time, me and 123 other peepol are out here prayin' prayers for ya too, so I'm pretty sure we've got His attention!

  124. All I know is that there are heartless people, who if you DID try to cut their heart out--they wouldn't find one in their chest. Obviously, that isn't you--and it may take awhile--even a long while---but that hole that's in your heart will be mended. One day.

  125. Prayers that the heart ache dulls and the heart songs increase- whatever is paining you, I hope you feel better soon.

  127. Time. Nothing can mend a broken heart but time..and even then..the scar remains. It helps to have support from loved ones and I know you have that. Nothing will help. I wish it could, but it cannot.
Love? If that helps, I send my all of mine. It's all I have to give, precious friend.
