Private Eyes

Posted by Picasa

We hide behind our pseudo fictitious names protecting our identity. We live in places called 'Tiny Town' smacked right in the middle of Nowhere, USA to secure our safety in undisclosed locations. We marry men who sport names like Hubby, Stud Muffin, Lumber Jack or Farm Boy. We have children called Geek Son and Social Butterfly and yet the thing we fear most as bloggers can happen. One day your readin' your comments and chills dart up and down your spine when someone gets a little too up close and personal. The anonymous word slinger who knows more than you have disclosed desiring to become more intimate than you ever imagined leaving you as wired as a freshly stretched barbed wire fence. Strange unexplained events begin to happen to both you and your followers.

This was the dilemma word smith blogger Paige McDonald found herself in after receiving such anonymous comments on her blog, "Blogging My Brains Out." Things escalated after attending a BlogHer conference in Chicago discovering that some of her bloggin' buddies had been violently murdered. Escalating the terror-stricken author's life is an ex-husband, a jealous dramatist sister, two daughters and her Mother. Toss in a suspicious detective and the FBI and ya got yourself a plot that would make ya turn all the lights in the house on, pull the covers over your head and cry "Mama!!!"

Teresa Moody has taken our fears and written a daunting novel that will unnerve your safety net next time a comment gets a little too personal leavin' ya'll as scared as the first fatted cow in line at a slaughter house. "Tess" is a person of letters and has thrown together several books since 2003. The latest just happens to be the one I won in her giveaway over at Six Feet Under called " Anonymous."

Tess is a urban Midwest wife, mother of three children plottin' on sendin' her to an early grave, a photographer and writer. Now I know where my "Super Nezzy" cape went! You can find your copy of "Anonymous" today at Amazon.Com. Get your copy, lock the door, grab a blankie and be prepared to sing that 1981 rock and roll~rhythm and blues tune from the sapphire eyed duo Hall and Oates, "Private Eyes." Beware fellow bloggers 'cause "private eyes are watching you, they see your every move!!!"

  24. i am not sure i WANT to read that book. i am already terrified of all blogging and facebook and twitter that is going on. i have said over and over to my hubby (see i use that name a lot) how dangerous it could be. and it would not be fiction. there have already been murders that are connected to facebook. thanks for the reveiw. be careful out there

    ReplyDelete
  25. I was happy to read that it was a book you were describing and not yourself. That sounds like one of those thrillers that would cause me never to blog again. Guess I'd better not read it as I do love to blog everyday. I hear it is your Birthday! I hope your had a very Happy Day! Blessings to you for another great trip around the sun!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I was relieved to know this was a book and not something you were going to share that happened to you or a close friend. I was a stalking victim for 8 long years. Not Fun.
It is always important to be careful!

  32. Ooh, this sounds so good! Now I was a little scared after seeing your picture there with that big ole butcher knife! Whew! So glad you didn't do something bad! :)

  36. Holy cow. I was reading this post and getting all worried for you.

    Ahhh, it's a book review.

And probably one that would scare me.

I'm kind of a scaredy cat about stuff...

But lock your doors, OK? Even if it is just fiction.

  37. OMGosh, Nezzy...halfway through I'm thinking to myself "I am NEVER blogging again"!..lol...good thing I didn't see Mr. Gates(not Bill) in that list of names!! I want to read this book!!! That would be a great one for a give away!!..just saying..lol

  38. what a great idea for a book. i'm gonna go and get me a copy. hopefully i won't be to frightened to blog again! thanks for the book review. have a great day!

  39. Sounds scary!

Now I just have to decide if I need to be any more scared of the internet.

A guy at work was telling me that back a number of years ago the South Korean mafia got so caught up in one of those online fantasy games that they were offing players who did too well.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Dang you're good! I lived in the world of a small chat room for years and have become friends with many I chatted with. The first time I met a fellow chatter, hubby (or should I call him Jim lol) went with me and we were both nervous. Since then we've gotten together with many people we've met on the internet and some remain fast friends. It can be a scary world, though. I might just have to read that book! Thanks for the review and I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh, my - - - - you are one of those mystery lovers. I am not. If I read that book, I could not sleep and might stop blogging! But I do love your review! What you write is always fun to read.

    ReplyDelete
  44. You had me in goosebumps till I read further. Wonder if it will scare some people out of blogging. Hope not.
Need to think about whether I need the scare or not. What a premise though. I will check to see if it is Kindle available.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Dang girl, you had me going there for a couple seconds... don't do that! But it does sound like a timely write and I'll put it on my list.
    Everyone be SAFE out there!

  46. Oh my I have had thoughts of closing my site and now you may have hammered the nails in the coffin. lol
Seriously thou it is something to consider with our crazy world we live in.
Nezzy I am so ashamed that I have not sent Angel Dawns gift yet. Everyday I pray for her recovery and reading your comment about her is heartbreaking.
One reason I have not sent what I bought her is I can not find it. Sounds crazy but I am beginning to think they did not put it in my bags because I don't have it and my girlfriend Sharon is checking her car for it.
I may have to give up and do something else.
Bless her heart for going through this at such a young age.
Please know I pray for you too because this has to be tearing your heart in pieces too.
Prayers for both you and Angel Dawn
    Love
    Maggie

  50. Hi Nezzy,
This looks like a great read, and very much the world of we bloggers (except, thank goodness, the murder and mayhem part).
Thanks for visiting my blog and for you astute observation on words. Words are powerful and can indeed beautify or mangle for life. I'm happy to know bloggers like you who are into the beautifying business.
    Have a great weekend.

  51. Okay. My heart was thumpin on your intro!!!!!!! OMG, that actually could happen! This sounds awesome! I mean the book, not the freaky deaky stalking anonymous person!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Wow- what a review. You know I have to read it, especially since I have a good friend named Tess who is a midwestern mom and photographer.

You know how to grab an audience's attention!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Well. Well...just thank God it's not a true story! Right? I mean..it is fiction..right?
Nezzy..you got this old lady wanting to read it and scared silly.
I live in a haunted house already...and sleep with my head under the covers...so..not so sure I want to read it.
YES I am! I'm going to get it and take my mind off screams at the foot of our bed, and a gray..dog..or something that zips through the house..and people laughing and stuff like that.
Yep..I could take being sidetracked with something scarier..
What a GREAT book review!! I loved every single minute of it.
    Love and hugs to you..yep!!
    Mona :)

  55. that could be a good book to read! I'm one of those that tried to keep my anonymity on my blog, no pictures, no names other than mine and the dogs, general location, etc and someone still found my name/address to send me a nice gift (a friend but she should have asked me for it because I would have given it out) through info I said on my blog (name of church) and my Facebook account (deleted now). That panicked me that should could find me who is a friend so I seriously thought of going private with my journal, but in the end didn't. I think we just need to be careful with what we post on here; it scares me that people put their full names, their kids names, names of schools, etc.

I'll have to look for that book down the line

  98. Hi...Here is the trick, I think. In blog world, be a guy. Weirdos don't care about us men, especially old ones. Now I am not saying I am old but I am shuffling that direction. It seems a lady has to be on guard always, which is a sad reality.

  100. Hi Nezzy,
Just had to stop and say hi before I left for work today. I work 2 days a week and it does help get me out of the baby mode for awhile.
It rained over 5 inches here last night and some places are flooding. We had quite the storm! I am with you, I am a summer gal but Fall has certainly arrived here.

  102. Oh my goodness, I thought this was really happening!!!! What a relief when I read further and discovered it was only a book. But you know, I went through a similar situation - in my head. 'Member when I went crazy a few months back? Well, those were the kind of thoughts that were going in on my mind. Not that anything precipitated it - I was just a little bonkers. But I felt the terror, the paranoia.

This sounds like a great book, and I'd love to tell you I'm going right out to buy it, but I honestly don't think I can - just hits too close to home!

    ReplyDelete
  103. I too thought the story was real. Good to know that it is fiction. 110 comments on this? Wowza. You're popular.

  125. Hello from Vegas, Nezzy. Absolutely LOVE your blog. The whole blogging stalker thing scares the crap out of me, though. I am relatively new to blogging, having been hooked only 3 months now. I'm thoroughly enjoying it, so far, but will be keeping my eyes open for possible problems. Thanks for the post. Will be coming back for more.

  126. I'M SORRY ABOUT YOUR FATHER, NEZZY. MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE!

In this post, You've revealed your talent as a book reviewer. Very good review indeed!

  127. Oh my...I am reading your post on the heels of reading another blogger friend's post in which she shared a freaky incident with someone who got too close. My blogger friend had first felt comforted by the comments after her brother died mysteriously. She sort of got "sucked in" because she was grief stricken. Now it turns out, the person leaving the comments is known for befriending unknowing bloggers and then scaring them to death! So, my dear Nezzy, your post is very timely for me. The book sounds great. Right up my alley. Thanks for the tip.
    Take care, Joanne

  130. This is brilliant. And timely, considering the fact that I had a similar experience about a week ago--It stopped me dead in my blogging tracks and caused me to delete 45 "friends" on Facebook, too. I'm feeling better now, but I'll probably avoid this book for a while; I'm feeling plenty creeped out already!haha

  138. Nezzy,
I'm so sorry about the loss of your father! I lost my daddy over 15 years ago and really missed him a lot after he was gone. My heart goes out to you!

  139. Okay, you made me want to read this book now even though you gave me chills while reading your review.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Okay, after reading that. . .The hair on the back of my neck is standing on end and I am having a hard time deciding if that has areqady happened or if it's just a story!

It is a book I'm gonna pass on. Why, how do you expect me to keep my heart pure and my mouth clean for the Lord as a pastor if I am so scared I just want to go drink some gin and tonic down at Bubba's while I slip a Xanex from Aunt Pearl's pill box, to calm my nerves about a blogging stalker getting to close. . .
ThenI'd have to go and repent for all the damage I caused and did, and . . . . I am ramblin'!

Oh Lordy mercy! sounds like a great book. You tell my how it was. I'll have to sleep with the lights on if I read it!
