COLD AS ICE

Posted by Picasa

I make no bones that I think winter is about as useful as a rubber crutch. This Ozark Farm Chick is a summertime gal. I thrive in my biker shorts, cute little tees and flippies. I adore workin' my acre of flower gardens and afternoon dips in my swimmin' pool. Ya know, the things dreams are made of. This winter has been colder than a cast iron commode on the shady side of an iceberg and I have not hidden the fact that 'Nezzy' has not been a happy camper. With that said, of all things I could collect... I collect snowmen!!! I know, that makes me about a crazy as a sprayed roach but I love the little cold~hearted fellas. You will fine 'em nestled into every nook and corner of the Ponderosa's homestead from the edge of Autumn through the early stages of Spring.

Woohoo!!! It's Deep Clean Friday and I've been busier than a set of jumper cables at a Redneck picnic. Yep, faucets sparkle, furnace filters cleaned, floors shine and the dust mites are gaspin' for air. Ya'll know how clean rocks my world but as I was cleanin' I had little eyes givin' me cold hard stares. I'm thinkin'...it might be time to put my crystal gents with the carrot noses away, Spring bein' Sunday and all. Ponderin' on how each and every snowflake is as unique and individual as God made us, I carefully wrapped each snowman to be packed away. In doin' so I noticed that some of my snowmen have yellowed over the years while others are still pure white. Yellowed kinda like us when we allow sin into our lives. Psalm 51:7 says "Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow." Now, I can't take the aromatic plant hyssop used to clean in ancient days to wash away my sins but this plant was also used in religious rituals in comparison to the blood of Christ. That's somethin' this chick can wrap her brain around! Now, if that don't put the pepper in the Gumbo!!!

Ya'll know that goin' to church doesn't make ya a Christian anymore than standin' in a garage makes ya a car. Far to often we are yellowed with unkindness we show others instead of reflectin' love of Jesus. Our hearts can become as stinkin' cold as the little snowmen I just packed away. Spring is upon us, a time of rebirth and new beginnings. I don't want to be like the 1977 British~American band Foreigner who sang "Cold as Ice" on their Billboard Hot 100 list record. As the warm rays of the sun melts winter's remnants from the earth, I yearn for The Son to warm my soul allowin' me radiate the warmth of His precious love. I want to be a servant, a warm lovin' child of God. I want it to never be said of me that "she was...Cold as Ice!!!"

  10. I don't know too many people who collect snowmen up here in the Upper Midwest. Probably because we have a good 6 months of winter--LOL! There's something very cheery about snowmen, tho.

I agree--we need to be kind and loving all the time--all year round. Happy spring! (We're still waiting up here.)

  11. I'm not a stay-out-in-the-sun gal. But I do get very tired of snow/ice. Especially the ice!

I just discovered that my *Moat Of Ice* has melted. So I can now *Exit The Castle,* without having to pick my way over bone-breaking-ICE! How sweet is that?!?

    Gentle hugs...

  12. Well, I think you collecting snowmen makes perfect sense! Keeps you cool during the summer months, thinking about them. And you are certainly an entertaining and interesting person... the more I learn about you, the better I like you!! :-)

  14. Nezzy, there is no way anyone could ever consider you cold as ice. Never. You do not hide your light. You let it shine for everyone to see. I love this post and I love visiting you.
How did you come up with cold as a cast iron commode on the dark side of an ice berg?
You really need to make a list of your Nezzyisms and print it. It would sell millions.

  15. Nezzy, I really like the comparisons you make between the Son and the sun...so true! What a lovely post as well as a fresh new way of looking at sin and being cleansed.
I had to laugh thugh because don't you think hatin' winter and likin' snowmen is an oxymoron?
    ...just asking...

I do love snowmen.. Collected them at one time myself...finally ended up giving them to my daughter..Now her kids have the pleasure of enjoying them..

  20. A wonderfully written post Nezzy. My mama collected snowmen. I passed them along to the little 7 yr old girl who now calls Nalley Valley "home." I enjoyed the comparison of the yellowed snowmen to people. In the process of moving, I have met so many nice folks and made friends in the most unusual ways. It's so important to keep our hearts and "ears" open to the voice of God. Hoping you are beginning to feel better. I'm battling with allergies and I am determined to win!!! Love you,

  21. Your post today is a ray of sunshine heralding the spring that is coming soon. You are smart to put your snowmen away before they melt in the heat that is coming soon.
The warmth in your heart shines through loud and clear.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well isn't that funny. I also hate being cold yet I also collect snowmen :)
Lovely post for today. I doubt that anyone would ever think of you as cold as ice

  23. O.K., you had me roaring at the first simile, "...like a rubber crutch." Dearest, I must sound like a broken record, but PLEASE, PLEASE show your writing to someone IMPORTANT who has the POWER to publish!!! WOMAN, YOU ARE FUNNY, INFORMATIVE, POWERFUL and precious. Yes, we need ONLY the blood of Christ to make our souls as WHITE AND PERFECT as snow...and I am with ya....BRING ON SPRING!!! Gotta send my Ruben over here as soon as he comes home from a week long trip DOWN SOUTH!!! Anita

  26. I think you're about as far from the cold-hearted snowmen as it gets!

I agree, though, that we all get a little yellowed around the edges now and then...so it's good to be vigilant and make sure we are remembering to warm up the lives of those around us a little bit!

    =)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have quite a Snowman collection too..they always seem so darn happy!
You could never in a million years be cold as ice..you bring sonshine and warmth to many people everyday..me included! :)

  28. Beautiful post, Nezzy! My daily prayer is that the Lord will fill my heart with His love so that I can spread it to others.

  29. I've tried real hard most of my life to "not" collect anything. For awhile when I was a young wife I found frogs taking over my kitchen in the shape of canisters and coffee mugs. The closest thing I have to a collection these days is a series of humorous dragon pictures that have recently been removed from the wall of a stair well. It looks a whole lot better blank.

My mother collected cat things. At one time she had over a thousand. Most of them were dusty most of the time.

  30. Nezzy...I am sure God was smiling your way with this post.It is so important for us to remember to act on what God tells us say..wether in person or thru blogging.I know where you stand with Him...with so many I read..I just don't know.I hope and pray those reading mine will see my love for Him and I have been convicted of posting more scripture.Times are getting rougher for people and they need to see how we Christians handle things and see whom our strength is in.
As for the snowmen...mine are still up at home...I have been gone now 10 weeks...I thought I would of been home by now to put them up..my husband says he's glad they are still up and sitting around...it reminds him of me and my love for them.I should be home in about 2 weeks...then there will be major houskeeping to be done. But it will be my house and not my daughters...yeah!!!!
Hugs girlfriend...and I do agree with the others...look for a publisher..you do have a way with words...I do believe God gave you a special gift!!

  35. Mezzy, me too...I collect snowmen and snow people. I have to be careful because if I bought every snowperson home I fell in love with, I'd have a blizzard in my house! :)

I'm loving the beginning of spring here! Can't wait to see it in full bloom!

Have a wonderful weekend, my friend!

  36. Let the Son shine in! You sure have a way of warming my heart with your words. Be Blessed!

  37. I cherish the Sonshine too! I'm so looking forward to Spring and some brighter days but then again, it'll be easier to see the dust. You made me smile today...love ya!

  38. I don't collect snowmen, although I have been known to make a few in the winter time. And just like you Nezzy, I'm a hot summer person through and through. Winter can't leave fast enough. God has given you many talents, and writing is one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm sorry but I have to make this joke, yellow snow in KY, don't eat it.

And you my friend will never have the words cold as ice said with your name. God has already made sure you will stay white as snow. :)

  42. What a wonderful snowman collection, Nezzy.

Going to church definitely doesn't make one a Christian. There are those around me who have never seen the inside of church, and yet they follow in God's footsteps and live His teachings in ways I can only aspire to, as surely as Spring follows Winter in our hills of Missouri.

You are such an inspiration. Bless you Nezzy.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yep, I'm a summertime gal myself. I love seeing buds & blooms - spring's promise of warmer days to come.

As for cold, the polar bears can keep it. Even so, I'd prefer it over lukewarm any day.

    Warmed from within,
    Kathleen

  44. Nezzy, no matter what you post it leaves me with a huge smile on my face! This is a perfect time to put away the cold, in our hearts and in the weather..if the weather would just cooperate! So spring clean I will do this lovely day and wake up tomorrow ready for my favorite time of year..Easter...and hopefully Mother Nature will not forget to bring it to my backyard!

  45. Aww, what cute snowmen. If it were me, I'd bring them out in summer when the heat makes me wilt to remind me of those nice cool? days of winter. Seems no matter what temp we are in, we crave the other. Guess we are human huh?
    Enjoy spring.

  52. I have quite a few snow persons too. I put them out just over the Christmas season though. I don't want to chance any of them melting. You know sometimes, maybe a day or two, Mother Nature decides to torture us with summer like weather in the dead of winter. So just in case it would get warm like that I put my snow persons away, when I put away the Christmas decorations.

  54. I am sooooooooooooooooo a summertime person. I lived in Taiwan and Philippines for several years. I loved it! We were outside on Christmas day taking pictures with the boys in short pants....... Thought I would freeze when we came back to the US and we came back to Mt. Home AFB Idaho! OMG!

I too love to work outside in my yard all day and then head to the pool around 3..... I stay up late at night and work on my web page so that it does not interfere with my sunshine!

  55. Oh Nezzy Sweetie...
You make my heart so HAPPY, I just love coming over to read your writes. U wish you could have been here yesterday in the warmth of the desert sun. We had 91 degrees and I was gardening away, yep in shorts and flip flops, and today sweet girl, I am sporting one heck of a sunburn. Today it was 81, and it is supposed to rain on Monday but get right on back up in the 80s. We are having wonderful temps. No snow, ice or cold here.

I have to tell you when we moved to the desert, 25 years ago, I started collecting snowmen as well. I think it was because we don't see snow here, but I love their little faces, and I buy a singing one each Christmas. I have actually been leaving them out longer and longer each year, as I so love seeing their faces. Be still my little heart.

So happy to see your post today sweetie. Have a glorious day tomorrow. Many hugs and SO much love, Sherry

  56. That was such a beautiful post Nezzy. Lent is my favorite time of year. It warms my heart with forgiveness and unconditional love. What could be better? Funny thing Nezzy, I collect snowmen too. My sweet mother started my collection. I miss her so. But know that she is in a wonderful place where God has opened his arms to her. Hugs Nezzy, Love Di ♥

  57. Well, friend, mostly you always leave me laughing but today's post is making me contemplative. You are so right....there is a lot of dust on my soul sometimes and while I WANT it to be white as your cute collectibles, it just isn't. I always need God on my side and more so as the days pass. Thanks for the reminder...pax

  62. EXCELLENT post! Sounds like something a person could use for a devotional at a prayer coffee or something - - - or it could be a chapter in a devotional book - - perhaps God is calling you to do that one day since you do have a great gift of writing! I am not a summertime lover because I do not like to sweat - - but give me an A/C and I am fine. Spring and autumn are my two favorite seasons.

  63. "I've been busier than a set of jumper cables at a Redneck picnic."...totally love that quote!! My stepdad is a self-proclaimed "redneck" so you just know I'm gonna have to share this with him and it'll probably become his new quote of the day!!!!

I wish I had the energy to clean my house until it's sparkling clean. But my kids are all little and the place would just become a mess again within 10 minutes so....

  65. Good Morning Nezzy! Love your snowmen collection! I still have a little snowlady on the fireplace. After 80 degrees yesterday and the same today I think it is time she went to the basement with the other decorations! We did some deeeeep cleaning outside all day yesterday! Bet you were out too! Sunburned. NoBODY is ever going to be saying that you are As Cold As Ice!

  66. Your posts are always entertaining Nezzy, and also insightful!

I say keep around you what you love; who cares what someone might think if they see your adorable snowmen in summer? See them when it's so hot out, might just give them that little shiver they need.

Hope you all have a blessed week! ♥

  78. "...busier than a set of jumper cables at a Redneck picnic." Now that's a new on me, but so true! I remember one year when we left for Fred's family reunion and he made sure he took the jumper cables out of our trunk - said he wasn't about to run our battery down boosting off everybody else's car!

This is also great: "Ya'll know that goin' to church doesn't make ya a Christian anymore than standin' in a garage makes ya a car." You, though, Nezzy, have got it right.

I love snowmen, too! But Fred would have a fit if I tried to leave em up til spring. For several years, I tried leaving my red Christmas bows up til Valentine's Day, but he wouldn't let me. This year? There are five of them still attached to the dining room chandelier...and it's almost April. He really is the most unobservant man in all creation.

Hope you have a great, no snowman week!

Spring is a time of rebirth and like you...I pray that the Lord continually births a right and sweet spirit within me! Thank you so much for penning what is in your heart, my friend...such sweet and true words!!!

Well on a lighter note, I just adore all of your snowmen! You have a lovely collection! I especially liked that rusty old bucket and lid with the cute little snowmen painted on the front! I collect snowmen too! What is it about these chunky little snow creatures that just steal our hearts? Hehe! Thanks for sharing your sweet collection with us today!!!

  96. This is a great piece of writing, Nezzie!!! And I DO remember Cold As Ice, we like it when it comes on the car radio! How in the world did you manage to do this cool film showing that slide show, I have NEVER seen one like it! I hope you are getting over your flu or whatever it was! I know I feel better already just watching your sweet granddaughter tear into that cupcake! She is sweeter looking than the cake, I'd love to give her a big hug!!!

  97. I love snowmen! But let spring commence!! Have a wonderful weekend.

  98. It's deep clean Friday? I'd better get to work. :)

    Sending some warmth your way.

  99. I love this analogy of using God's love to warm us up in this crazy sleeting cold world.

  100. I am not a winter girl either but a child of God for sure!

  101. Nezzy you are so colorful and FUN!!!
Pack away those snowmen and get out your flippies!!!

  102. Nezzy I love your sense of humour I have always thought of the woods as my church I feel it surrounds me there I don't need a church to do that. B

  103. Nezzy honey what was I thinking when I wrote it was warming up in some places. Good gosh I am glad all you wrote on your comment was rub it in. hahahaha
Forgive me I think like a southern girl sometimes and forget how cold it is up there where you are.
Just this morning when I was saying my morning prayers and praying for Angel Dawn I wanted to write you and ask how she is doing.
    Love ya
    Maggie

  104. Fun post! I love a woman that knows what she likes! My favorite thing about winter is being inside next to a fire cuddled up and warm. Summer is coming fast!!! Even up here in Alaska. We got six inches of snow last week, but it has melted and now we only have another two feet left to go! Can you say --- mud and puddle lakes everywhere...

  105. Oh, I'm a summer gal too! Winters here are too darn long! About time you put your snowmen away! Yes, they are sweet, but....

    Fun post! I'll be back.

  106. Hi Nezzy,
That little trip you took to the UP sounds so romantic! Thanks for being such a good bloggy friend!
    Have a wonderful weekend too,

  107. I remember that song from '77 well...don't want to be a "frozen" follower of Christ, either...warm me up, Holy Spirit!

  108. I love this post Nezzie!!! I swear you wrote what I have been thinking. I haven't been in God's house in a few years and recently it has been calling me. I suppose that it could be these 40 days of lent cleansing my soul ~ today I woke up thinking.. I am going to go to mass this weekend... and later, while sitting on the catholic school parking lot waiting for my youngest daughter ~ The church bells rang out a beautiful tune and I immediately answered back " I'm coming."
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  111. Guess it's fair to say you're ready for Spring.
Love the photos of your Snowman collection.
    You, "cold as nice"? NEVER!!

  112. Hey Nezzy!

It HAS been a terrible winter hasn't it! I love thinking of you out in your garden in your flip flops! That just screams summer!!!

YES!! So glad you put those snowmen away! I actually have a bunch that my mom has given me over the years but I stop even bringing them out every year...I like to keep the snowmen outside :) Poor guys :)

    Take Care!!!

  113. I am laughing in New York. I am no fan of winter, either and I, too, collect snowmen and snow globes. I keep the snowmen tucked away after January, but the snow globes are all over my office and apartment. Hope the warm weather has begun and you're just about in flip-flop weather!

  114. You're more like "Sunshine On My Shoulders," or "You Are My Sunshine," or "Sunny."

  115. I don't like winter either. I guess that is why I love Southern California and will never move.
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
    Hugs, Ann

  116. I love your snowmen collection but I really love your words and thoughts about Jesus.

  117. I love your analogy at the end and agree with you. Although I attend church regularly, I am aware the other 6 days of the week are just as, or perhaps more, important than ONE.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I can't imagine anyone ever accusing you of being cold as ice!
I'm a summer girl too. I need all this snow and ice to melt so I can get on with the fun of planting the garden and soaking up the sun!

  123. Hi sweet friend!

Gosh, I've had fun catching up with you tonight. It seems like FOREVER since I've had time to just read blogs and enjoy myself. Between our two weeks in California and then having two grandsons here for Spring Break, I seem to have gotten myself behind. Not anymore though. I'm BAAAACK!

    Hugs,
    Kat
